You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witness in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1::8

Confession of Sin

Dearly beloved, we have come together in the presence of Almighty God our heavenly Father, to set forth his praise, to hear his holy Word, and to ask, for ourselves and on behalf of others, those things that are necessary for our life and our salvation. And so that we may prepare ourselves in heart and mind to worship him, let us kneel in silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy.
or this
Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

*A deacon or lay person using the preceding form remains kneeling, and substitutes 'us' for 'you' and 'our' for 'your.'

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

The Invitatory and Psalter
Officiant:   Lord, open our lips.
People:     And our mouth shall proclaim your praise

Officiant and People: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen   Alleluia

The Invitatory Psalm
Jubilate
Psalm 100

Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands;
   serve the Lord with gladness and come before his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord himself is God;
    he himself has made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise;
   give thanks to him and call upon his Name.
For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting;
    and his faithfulness endures from age to age.

The following Antiphon may be sung or said
Easter Season, including Ascension Day and the Day of Pentecost

You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8

The Lessons

Psalm 85

(1) Lord, You have been favorable to Your land; You have brought back the captivity of Jacob. (2) You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people; You have covered all their sin. Selah (3) You have taken away all Your wrath; You have turned from the fierceness of Your anger. (4) Restore us, O God of our salvation, And cause Your anger toward us to cease.

(5) Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger to all generations? (6) Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You? (7) Show us Your mercy, LORD, And grant us Your salvation. (8) I will hear what God the LORD will speak, For He will speak peace To His people and to His saints; But let them not turn back to folly.

(9) Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, That glory may dwell in our land. (10) Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed. (11) Truth shall spring out of the earth, And righteousness shall look down from heaven. (12) Yes, the LORD will give what is good; And our land will yield its increase.

(13) Righteousness will go before Him, And shall make His footsteps our pathway.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Psalm 86

(1) Bow down Your ear, O LORD, hear me; For I am poor and needy. (2) Preserve my life, for I am holy; You are my God; Save Your servant who trusts in You! (3) Be merciful to me, O Lord, For I cry to You all day long. (4) Rejoice the soul of Your servant, For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

(5) For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You. (6) Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; And attend to the voice of my supplications. (7) In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, For You will answer me. (8) Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; Nor are there any works like Your works.

(9) All nations whom You have made Shall come and worship before You, O Lord, And shall glorify Your name. (10) For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God. (11) Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name. (12) I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And I will glorify Your name forevermore.

(13) For great is Your mercy toward me, And You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. (14) O God, the proud have risen against me, And a mob of violent men have sought my life, And have not set You before them. (15) But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth. (16) Oh, turn to me, and have mercy on me! Give Your strength to Your servant, And save the son of Your maidservant.

(17) Show me a sign for good, That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed, Because You, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

1 Samuel 2

(1) And Hannah prayed and said: 'My heart rejoices in the LORD; My horn is exalted in the LORD. I smile at my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation. (2) No one is holy like the LORD, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God. (3) Talk no more so very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the LORD is the God of knowledge; And by Him actions are weighed. (4) The bows of the mighty men are broken, And those who stumbled are girded with strength.

(5) Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, And the hungry have ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, And she who has many children has become feeble. (6) The LORD kills and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and brings up. (7) The LORD makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up. (8) He raises the poor from the dust And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes And make them inherit the throne of glory. 'For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, And He has set the world upon them.

(9) He will guard the feet of His saints, But the wicked shall be silent in darkness. 'For by strength no man shall prevail. (10) The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken in pieces; From heaven He will thunder against them. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth. 'He will give strength to His king, And exalt the horn of His anointed.'

  The Word of the Lord.
  Thanks be to God.

Ephesians 2

(1) And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, (2) in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, (3) among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. (4) But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

(5) even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), (6) and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, (7) that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (8) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

(9) not of works, lest anyone should boast. (10) For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

  The Word of the Lord.
  Thanks be to God.

Matthew 7

(22) Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' (23) And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' (24) Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: (25) and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

(26) But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: (27) and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.'

  The Gospel of the Lord.
  Thanks be to God.

Canticles  can be prayed or sung after each reading or after all readings.

10 The Second Song of Isaiah
Quaerite Dominum Isaiah 55:6-11

Seek the Lord while he wills to be found; *
call upon him when he draws near.
Let the wicked forsake their ways *
and the evil ones their thoughts;
And let them turn to the Lord, and he will have compassion, *
and to our God, for he will richly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, *
nor your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, *
so are my ways higher than your ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as rain and snow fall from the heavens *
and return not again, but water the earth,
Bringing forth life and giving growth, *
seed for sowing and bread for eating,
So is my word that goes forth from my mouth; *
it will not return to me empty;
But it will accomplish that which I have purposed, *
and prosper in that for which I sent it.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

The Apostles' Creed

*Officiant and People together, all standing

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.
  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
  He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
  the holy catholic Church,
  the communion of saints,
  the forgiveness of sins,
  the resurrection of the body,
  and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Collect of the Week:  Sixth Sunday of Easter
O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

The Collect of the Day:  A Collect for Fridays Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for Mission: O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The General Thanksgiving
Officiant and People
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.

A Prayer of St. Chrysostom
Officiant
Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting. Amen.

Then may be said
Let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God

The Officiant may then conclude with one of the following
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen. 2 Corinthians 13:14
---or---
May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Romans 15:13
---or---
Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20,21
