Confession of Sin

Most merciful God,

Psalm 105

Ezekiel Chapter 18

⁽¹⁾ The word of the LORD came to me again, saying, ⁽²⁾ What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children's teeth are set on edge'? ⁽³⁾ As I live,' says the Lord GOD, 'you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel. ⁽⁴⁾ Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.

⁽¹⁹⁾ Yet you say, 'Why should the son not bear the guilt of the father?' Because the son has done what is lawful and right, and has kept all My statutes and observed them, he shall surely live. ⁽²⁰⁾ The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. ⁽²³⁾ Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?' says the Lord GOD, 'and not that he should turn from his ways and live? ⁽²⁴⁾ But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All the righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; because of the unfaithfulness of which he is guilty and the sin which he has committed, because of them he shall die. ⁽²⁵⁾ Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not fair.' Hear now, O house of Israel, is it not My way which is fair, and your ways which are not fair? ⁽²⁶⁾ When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity, and dies in it, it is because of the iniquity which he has done that he dies.

⁽²⁷⁾ Again, when a wicked man turns away from the wickedness which he committed, and does what is lawful and right, he preserves himself alive. ⁽²⁸⁾ Because he considers and turns away from all the transgressions which he committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die. ⁽²⁹⁾ Yet the house of Israel says, 'The way of the Lord is not fair.' O house of Israel, is it not My ways which are fair, and your ways which are not fair? ⁽³⁰⁾ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,' says the Lord GOD. 'Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin.

Hebrews Chapter 7

⁽¹⁸⁾ For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, ⁽¹⁹⁾ for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. ⁽²⁰⁾ And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath ⁽²¹⁾ (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him: 'The LORD has sworn And will not relent, 'You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek' '),

⁽²²⁾ by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant. ⁽²³⁾ Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. ⁽²⁴⁾ But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. ⁽²⁵⁾ Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

⁽²⁶⁾ For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; ⁽²⁷⁾ who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people's, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. ⁽²⁸⁾ For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.

Luke Chapter 10

And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. ⁽³²⁾ Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.

And when he saw him, he had compassion. ⁽³⁴⁾ So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. ⁽³⁵⁾ On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.' ⁽³⁶⁾ So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

  He descended to the dead.

O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.
