Ordinary Time
Thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy, 'I dwell in the high and holy place and also with the one who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite.' Isaiah 57:15

Confession of Sin

Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Absolution
Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

The Lessons

Psalm 104

⁽¹⁾ Praise the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. ⁽²⁾ He wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent ⁽³⁾ and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. ⁽⁴⁾ He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.

⁽⁵⁾ He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. ⁽⁶⁾ You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. ⁽⁷⁾ But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; ⁽⁸⁾ they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them.

⁽⁹⁾ You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth. ⁽¹⁰⁾ He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. ⁽¹¹⁾ They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. ⁽¹²⁾ The birds of the air nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.

⁽¹³⁾ He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work. ⁽¹⁴⁾ He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate-- bringing forth food from the earth: ⁽¹⁵⁾ wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart. ⁽¹⁶⁾ The trees of the LORD are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.

⁽¹⁷⁾ There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the pine trees. ⁽¹⁸⁾ The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the coneys. ⁽¹⁹⁾ The moon marks off the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. ⁽²⁰⁾ You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl.

⁽²¹⁾ The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. ⁽²²⁾ The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. ⁽²³⁾ Then man goes out to his work, to his labor until evening. ⁽²⁴⁾ How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

⁽²⁵⁾ There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number-- living things both large and small. ⁽²⁶⁾ There the ships go to and fro, and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there. ⁽²⁷⁾ These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time. ⁽²⁸⁾ When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.

⁽²⁹⁾ When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. ⁽³⁰⁾ When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth. ⁽³¹⁾ May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works-- ⁽³²⁾ he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke.

⁽³³⁾ I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. ⁽³⁴⁾ May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD. ⁽³⁵⁾ But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD.

Zechariah Chapter 14

⁽¹²⁾ This is the plague with which the LORD will strike all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. ⁽¹³⁾ On that day men will be stricken by the LORD with great panic. Each man will seize the hand of another, and they will attack each other. ⁽¹⁴⁾ Judah too will fight at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected-- great quantities of gold and silver and clothing. ⁽¹⁵⁾ A similar plague will strike the horses and mules, the camels and donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.

⁽¹⁶⁾ Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. ⁽¹⁷⁾ If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, they will have no rain. ⁽¹⁸⁾ If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The LORD will bring on them the plague he inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. ⁽¹⁹⁾ This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.

⁽²⁰⁾ On that day HOLY TO THE LORD will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the cooking pots in the LORD's house will be like the sacred bowls in front of the altar. ⁽²¹⁾ Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the LORD Almighty, and all who come to sacrifice will take some of the pots and cook in them. And on that day there will no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the LORD Almighty.

Philippians Chapter 2

⁽¹⁾ If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, ⁽²⁾ then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. ⁽³⁾ Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. ⁽⁴⁾ Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

⁽⁵⁾ Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: ⁽⁶⁾ Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, ⁽⁷⁾ but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. ⁽⁸⁾ And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!

⁽⁹⁾ Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, ⁽¹⁰⁾ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, ⁽¹¹⁾ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Luke Chapter 19

⁽⁴¹⁾ As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it ⁽⁴²⁾ and said, 'If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace-- but now it is hidden from your eyes. ⁽⁴³⁾ The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. ⁽⁴⁴⁾ They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.

  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
