Confession of Sin

Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Absolution
Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

The Lessons

Psalm 128

⁽¹⁾ A song of ascents. Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways. ⁽²⁾ You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. ⁽³⁾ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. ⁽⁴⁾ Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.

Psalm 129

Psalm 130

Zechariah Chapter 12

⁽¹⁾ This is the word of the LORD concerning Israel. The LORD, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the spirit of man within him, declares: ⁽²⁾ I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. ⁽³⁾ On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. ⁽⁴⁾ On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness,' declares the LORD. 'I will keep a watchful eye over the house of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations.

⁽⁵⁾ Then the leaders of Judah will say in their hearts, 'The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the LORD Almighty is their God.' ⁽⁶⁾ On that day I will make the leaders of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming torch among sheaves. They will consume right and left all the surrounding peoples, but Jerusalem will remain intact in her place. ⁽⁷⁾ The LORD will save the dwellings of Judah first, so that the honor of the house of David and of Jerusalem's inhabitants may not be greater than that of Judah. ⁽⁸⁾ On that day the LORD will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel of the LORD going before them.

⁽⁹⁾ On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem. ⁽¹⁰⁾ And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

Ephesians Chapter 1

⁽³⁾ Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. ⁽⁴⁾ For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love ⁽⁵⁾ he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will-- ⁽⁶⁾ to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

⁽⁷⁾ In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace ⁽⁸⁾ that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. ⁽⁹⁾ And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, ⁽¹⁰⁾ to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment-- to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

Luke Chapter 19

⁽¹⁾ Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. ⁽²⁾ A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. ⁽³⁾ He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. ⁽⁴⁾ So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

⁽⁵⁾ When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, 'Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.' ⁽⁶⁾ So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. ⁽⁷⁾ All the people saw this and began to mutter, 'He has gone to be the guest of a 'sinner.'' ⁽⁸⁾ But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, 'Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.'

⁽⁹⁾ Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. ⁽¹⁰⁾ For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.'
