Lent
To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgivenesses, because we have rebelled against him and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by following his laws which he set before us. Daniel 9:9, 10
Confession of Sin Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Lessons
Psalm 89
(23) I will beat down his foes before his face, And plague those who hate him. (24) But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him, And in My name his horn shall be exalted. (25) Also I will set his hand over the sea, And his right hand over the rivers. (26) He shall cry to Me, 'You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.'
(27) Also I will make him My firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth. (28) My mercy I will keep for him forever, And My covenant shall stand firm with him. (29) His seed also I will make to endure forever, And his throne as the days of heaven. (30) If his sons forsake My law And do not walk in My judgments,
(31) If they break My statutes And do not keep My commandments, (32) Then I will punish their transgression with the rod, And their iniquity with stripes. (33) Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him, Nor allow My faithfulness to fail. (34) My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.
(35) Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David: (36) His seed shall endure forever, And his throne as the sun before Me; (37) It shall be established forever like the moon, Even like the faithful witness in the sky.' Selah (38) But You have cast off and abhorred, You have been furious with Your anointed.
(39) You have renounced the covenant of Your servant; You have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground. (40) You have broken down all his hedges; You have brought his strongholds to ruin. (41) All who pass by the way plunder him; He is a reproach to his neighbors. (42) You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; You have made all his enemies rejoice.
(43) You have also turned back the edge of his sword, And have not sustained him in the battle. (44) You have made his glory cease, And cast his throne down to the ground. (45) The days of his youth You have shortened; You have covered him with shame. Selah (46) How long, LORD? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your wrath burn like fire?
(47) Remember how short my time is; For what futility have You created all the children of men? (48) What man can live and not see death? Can he deliver his life from the power of the grave? Selah (49) Lord, where are Your former lovingkindnesses, Which You swore to David in Your truth? (50) Remember, Lord, the reproach of Your servants -- How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,
(51) With which Your enemies have reproached, O LORD, With which they have reproached the footsteps of Your anointed. (52) Blessed be the LORD forevermore! Amen and Amen.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Jeremiah Chapter 16
(14) Therefore behold, the days are coming,' says the LORD, 'that it shall no more be said, 'The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,' (15) but, 'The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where He had driven them.' For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers. (16) Behold, I will send for many fishermen,' says the LORD, 'and they shall fish them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. (17) For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes.
(18) And first I will repay double for their iniquity and their sin, because they have defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable idols.' (19) O LORD, my strength and my fortress, My refuge in the day of affliction, The Gentiles shall come to You From the ends of the earth and say, 'Surely our fathers have inherited lies, Worthlessness and unprofitable things.' (20) Will a man make gods for himself, Which are not gods? (21) Therefore behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know My hand and My might; And they shall know that My name is the LORD.

Romans Chapter 7
(5) For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. (6) But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. (7) What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, 'You shall not covet.' (8) But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead.
(9) I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. (10) And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. (11) For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. (12) Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.

John Chapter 6
(5) Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, 'Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?' (6) But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do. (7) Philip answered Him, 'Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.' (8) One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him,
(9) There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?' (10) Then Jesus said, 'Make the people sit down.' Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. (11) And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. (12) So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, 'Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.'
(13) Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. (14) Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, 'This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.' (15) Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.

The Canticles
The Song of Moses       Kyrie Pantokrator Exodus 15:1 to 6, 11 to 13, 17 to 18
I will sing to the Lord, for he is lofty and uplifted;
the horse and its rider has he hurled into the sea.
The Lord is my strength and my refuge;
the Lord has become my Savior.
This is my God and I will praise him,
the God of my people and I will exalt him.
The Lord is a mighty warrior;
Yahweh is his Name.
The chariots of Pharoah and his army has he hurled into the sea;
the finest of those who bear armor have been drowned in the Red Sea.
The fathomless deep has overwhelmed them;
they sank into the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in might;
your right hand, O Lord, has overthrown the enemy.
Who can be compared with you, O Lord, among the gods?
who is like you, glorious in holiness,
awesome in renown, and worker of wonders?
You stretched forth your right hand;
the earth swallowed them up.
With your constant love you led the people you redeemed;
with your might you brought them in safety to
your holy dwelling.
You will bring them in and plant them
on the mount of your possession,
The resting-place you have made for yourself, O Lord,
the sanctuary, O Lord, that your hand has established.
The Lord shall reign
forever and forever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
A Song of Penitence       Kyrie Pantokrator Prayer of Manasseh 1 to 2, 4, 6 to 7, 11 to 15
O Lord and Ruler of the hosts of heaven,
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
and of all their righteous offspring:
You made the heavens and the earth,
with all their vast array.
All things quake with fear at your presence;
they tremble because of your power.
But your merciful promise is beyond all measure;
it surpasses all that our minds can fathom.
O Lord, you are full of compassion,
long-suffering, and abounding in mercy.
You hold back your hand;
you do not punish as we deserve.
In your great goodness, Lord,
you have promised forgiveness to sinners,
that they may repent of their sin and be saved.
And now, O Lord, I bend the knee of my heart,
and make my appeal, sure of your gracious goodness.
I have sinned, O Lord, I have sinned,
and I know my wickedness only too well.
Therefore I make this prayer to you:
Forgive me, Lord, forgive me.
Do not let me perish in my sin,
nor condemn me to the depths of the earth.
For you, O Lord, are the God of those who repent,
and in me you will show forth your goodness.
Unworthy as I am, you will save me,
in accordance with your great mercy,
and I will praise you without ceasing all the days of my life.
For all the powers of heaven sing your praises,
and yours is the glory to ages of ages. Amen.
The Song of Simeon       Nunc Dimittis Luke 2:29-32
Lord, you now have set your servant free
to go in peace as you have promised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior,
whom you have prepared for all the world to see:
A Light to enlighten the nations,
and the glory of your people Israel.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
The Apostles' Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.  He descended to the dead.  On the third day he rose again.  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.  He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,  the communion of saints,  the forgiveness of sins,  the resurrection of the body,  and the life everlasting. Amen.
