To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, because we have rebelled against him and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by following his laws which he set before us. Daniel 9:9, 10

Confession of Sin

Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Absolution
Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

The Lessons

Psalm 19

⁽¹⁾ The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. ⁽²⁾ Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. ⁽³⁾ There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. ⁽⁴⁾ Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,

⁽⁵⁾ Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. ⁽⁶⁾ Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. ⁽⁷⁾ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; ⁽⁸⁾ The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;

Cleanse me from secret faults.

⁽¹³⁾ Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. ⁽¹⁴⁾ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

Psalm 46

⁽¹⁾ God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. ⁽²⁾ Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; ⁽³⁾ Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah ⁽⁴⁾ There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.

Jeremiah Chapter 14

⁽¹⁾ The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the droughts. ⁽²⁾ Judah mourns, And her gates languish; They mourn for the land, And the cry of Jerusalem has gone up. ⁽³⁾ Their nobles have sent their lads for water; They went to the cisterns and found no water. They returned with their vessels empty; They were ashamed and confounded And covered their heads. ⁽⁴⁾ Because the ground is parched, For there was no rain in the land, The plowmen were ashamed; They covered their heads.

And if I enter the city, Then behold, those sick from famine! Yes, both prophet and priest go about in a land they do not know.' ' ⁽¹⁹⁾ Have You utterly rejected Judah? Has Your soul loathed Zion? Why have You stricken us so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but there was no good; And for the time of healing, and there was trouble. ⁽²⁰⁾ We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness And the iniquity of our fathers, For we have sinned against You.

⁽²¹⁾ Do not abhor us, for Your name's sake; Do not disgrace the throne of Your glory. Remember, do not break Your covenant with us. ⁽²²⁾ Are there any among the idols of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are You not He, O LORD our God? Therefore we will wait for You, Since You have made all these.

Galatians Chapter 4

⁽²¹⁾ Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? ⁽²²⁾ For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. ⁽²³⁾ But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, ⁽²⁴⁾ which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar --

⁽²⁵⁾ for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children -- ⁽²⁶⁾ but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all. ⁽²⁷⁾ For it is written: 'Rejoice, O barren, You who do not bear! Break forth and shout, You who are not in labor! For the desolate has many more children Than she who has a husband.' ⁽²⁸⁾ Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise.

⁽²⁹⁾ But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. ⁽³⁰⁾ Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? 'Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.' ⁽³¹⁾ So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free. ⁽¹⁾ Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

Mark Chapter 8

⁽¹¹⁾ Then the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him. ⁽¹²⁾ But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, 'Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.' ⁽¹³⁾ And He left them, and getting into the boat again, departed to the other side. ⁽¹⁴⁾ Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat.

⁽¹⁵⁾ Then He charged them, saying, 'Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.' ⁽¹⁶⁾ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'It is because we have no bread.' ⁽¹⁷⁾ But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, 'Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened? ⁽¹⁸⁾ Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?

⁽¹⁹⁾ When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?' They said to Him, 'Twelve.' ⁽²⁰⁾ Also, when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?' And they said, 'Seven.' ⁽²¹⁾ So He said to them, 'How is it you do not understand?'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
